Good evening Citizen

We have received a report of a scam phone call whereby the caller is claiming to work for BT Internet.

The call is a pre-recorded message on a computerised voice and states that 'BT are going to disconnect the internet as the main access line has been hacked. For more information, please press 1'. If you press 1, you are then put through to a caller who talks you through how to access your account on an electronic device. On this occasion, they did not ask for any personal details but by asking to follow their guidance to access the account has also allowed them to have access to this.

These people are convincing and use terminology to make it sound like they know what they're talking about. This is just 1 example of a scam phone call.

If you receive a phone call from a company claiming to be BT, Sky, the bank etc. please don't engage, hang up the phone and call the company directly and ask them if they are trying to get in contact with you.

These people are professionals and this can happen to anybody. Any incidents of this nature can be reported to Action Fraud by calling 0300 123 2040.

Many thanksFylde Neighbourhood Policing Team
